BEHIND THE STORY with PHIL WHITMORE
“LABYRINTH OF MARS”

This story was originally called “CRISIS”.

For about a day, then I actually started writing the story and well, its got a labyrinth in it… on Mars!

What else could it be called?

For a long time I wanted to write a scene in a story whereby the dashing hero & the snarling villain had a big sword fight, but- Plot twist!- the hero has already been drugged by the “pre-duel” drinkie-poos.

Emperor Monty thus became the second in a long line of cackling caped villains to kidnap Sia.

But this time, it drove the plot, because Mr Custa has to “jump through the hoops” so to speak, to stop Monty from taking Sia as his wedded bride.

If only he could find a Vicar on Mars.

The reason why it was Sia that got kidnapped in this story (and a few others) is simple.

Somebody had to be the “damsel in distress” and, as Sia is my favourite character, I decided it should be her. (Story Rules say to make things hard for your characters)

Lets face it, I don’t think Mr Custa would really care so much about losing Brok & Fly. (sorry guys!)
