BEHIND THE STORY with PHIL WHITMORE
“THE PLANET OF THE ANIMAL-HEADED MEN”

This story was originally called “SIRIUS” or “ARE YOU BEING SIRIUS?”

The idea that Emperor Monty (from “Labyrinth of Mars” would return to wreak havoc again, was a late addition to the script.

Yes, originally, Captain Zar was just simply that, Captain Zar.

I like to think that the villain really being Emperor Monty, somebody that we already know, made the story more interesting.

The original idea of “SIRIUS” was that it was populated by Dog people (Sirius The Dog Star, Gedit?) but I decided to mix it up a bit and have various different animal headed men.

Over all, this story has an “end of season” feel to it, (even though there was one more story afterwards) and a dark sense of foreboding, especially at the ending!

Oh and yea, we sing the “Happy Birthday” song in this one.

Because its (apparently) Mr Custa’s 100th birthday, even though he looks only in his 30s.

Because he did once grow old, but a happy accident in space made him young again.

Or something.
